Afro-Punk Festival 2012 Lineup Announced
Founded in 2005, the Afro-Punk Festival celebrates “the cultural cornerstones of Afro-Punk: music, film, skate, and most importantly, the fiercely independent and influential individuals that are the lifeblood of the AP community,” according to AfroPunk.com. The New York Times describes the event as putting “rock and rebellion squarely in the category of African-American music.” In other words, a festival that proves that punk rock isn’t just for white kids.
The 2012 fest is set for Aug. 25-26 at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park. Along with Badu, who is appearing with The Cannabinoids, the lineup features Gym Class Heroes, Janelle Monae, Das Racist, Skindred, Toro Y Moi, Reggie Watts, Spank Rock, Ninjasonik, Toshi Reagon, Straight Line Stitch, The Memorials, Radkey, Bad Rabbits, Gordon Voidwell, The London Souls, Cerebral Ballzy, Phony Ppl, Body Language and more.
Afro-Punk Festival will once again include the Nike Battle for the Streets Skate and BMX competition, which is described by Afro-Punk’s website as “the largest street skate and BMX showcase.”
The daily lineup will be announced soon. For more information visit AfroPunkFest.com.
